Luanda – Angola’s Ombudswoman, Florbela Araújo, stressed in Gaborone, capital of Botswana, the importance of the figure of the ombudsperson for the consolidation of the democratic state and the rule of law, as it works as a link between the public power and the citizen.
Florbela Araújo was speaking during the lecture on the 'lessons from experiences in complying with the ombudsperson's recommendations' during the second day of the international exhibition, which is taking place in Gaborone.
As chairperson of the Association of African Ombudspersons and Mediators, Florbela Araújo also moderated topics related to the challenges of ombudsmen, ways of handling complaints, procedural procedures, among others, which included the interventions of the Botswana Ombudsman, Stephen Tiroyahosi, among other human rights defenders.
Ombudspersons from Zambia, South Africa, Malawi and Gabon also spoke about their countries' experiences in terms of institutions with decision-making power. DC/ART/DOJ
