Saurimo - The commander of the North-East Military Region, José dos Santos, reiterated Monday in Saurimo eastern Lunda-Sul province, the commitment of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) to combat illegal immigration and smuggling.
Speaking at the opening of the Operational, Combative and Educational-Patriotic Preparation Year 2024-2025, the general said the FAA will step up policing, especially in border areas, in collaboration with other defense and security forces.
"We're also going to support the government in the tasks linked to the population census and contribute to eradicating illiteracy levels in the ranks, in order to meet the expectations set by the government," Santos said.
General José dos Santos added that the opening of the year of combative instruction aims to equip the troops with new methods of action, so that they are better prepared to defend and secure their homeland.
He urged the soldiers to use social media responsibly and to avoid excessive drinking and other acts that tarnish the Army's good name.
The ceremony was attended by members of the local government, the FAA Consultative Council and the National Police, among other guests.
