Talatona - The Secretary of State for Human Rights and Citizenship, Antónia da Cruz Yaba, on Friday reiterated the Angolan Government's intention to strengthen the partnership with civil society in the promotion, defense and protection of human rights.
The Secretary of State made the statement at the opening of the Forum of Local Human Rights Committees and Non-Governmental Organizations, held within the framework of the Day of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
According to the official, the realization of the forum is a mechanism capable of promoting social interaction and make public administration more participatory.
"That is, not only governing for the people, but with the people, through civil society organizations," the official said.
According to Antónia Yaba, the protection of human rights in Angola remains a very relevant challenge, based on budgeting, the creation of its own structures, the identification of appropriate spaces and the formation of committees at the municipal and district levels, as well as the strengthening of actions to disseminate and follow up on complaints.
"Angola has raised the issue of human rights to the level of a national security issue, which is included as a topic on the permanent agenda of the National Security Council, where reports on the human rights situation are presented periodically.
The Forum aims to strengthen the institutional training capacity of the Local Human Rights Committees (CLDH) at the national level, to ensure the exchange of experiences with other actors in the public sector and civil society, and to establish and promote local mechanisms to promote the defense and protection of human rights.
It also seeks to ensure the fluidity of the exchange of information between the CLDH and the National Directorate of Human Rights and to analyze the human rights situation in the country.
Secretaries of State, Municipal Administrators, National, Provincial and Municipal Directors, Diplomatic Corps accredited in Angola, members of Local Human Rights Committees, members of the Intersectoral Commission for the Drafting of the National Human Rights Report participate in the activity.MAG/DAN/AMP
