Luanda - The Secretary of State for Justice, Osvaldo Amaro, Tuesday in Luanda, reaffirmed that Angola has topped the combat against organized crime, corruption and all criminal practices aimed at subtracting public financial resources, which are essential for achieving the country's sustainable development.
Speaking at the launch of Angola's Voluntary Pilot Initiative for the process of revising the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, the official said Angola remains committed to approving and implementing political, legislative and administrative measures to prevent and combat crime in perfect alignment with the treaty.
According to Osvaldo Amaro, organized crime is a real scourge that has shaken world stability, draining states of huge financial resources that should be allocated to economic and social development, building infrastructure and investing in human capital.
This phenomenon, the official said, is manifested in a wide variety of areas, from justice systems to the vulnerabilities of information technology systems and the weaknesses found in various segments of society, which are real vectors of the proliferation of intentions and actions of criminal organizations.
Osvaldo Amaro explained that these organizations, in addition to destabilizing economies, market rules and free competition, change the legal-political order, overthrow democratically elected governments, finance or supply subversive groups, disrupt the rules of social coexistence, creating a climate of great insecurity and instability for states.
He defended the need to establish a platform for open dialogue between the various players, both public and private, and to combine the various synergies in order to achieve positive results.
The Secretary of State recognized the importance of creating mechanisms to prevent and combat transnational organized crime and of multilateralism in the pursuit of the common interests of states, as driving forces for achieving the objectives of the Convention and its Additional Protocols.
The event, which brings together civil society, national and international experts, aims to analyze the degree of implementation of the Convention and to identify the actions, methodologies and solutions that better contribute to achieving the national strategic objectives in this area.
