Luanda – Angola is to implement multimedia exams for driving license, the general commander of the National Police, Arnaldo Carlos, announced in Luanda Friday.
Speaking to the press at the end of the 1st ordinary session of the National Council for Traffic and Planning (CNVOT) chaired by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, the high ranking police officer said the measure aims to help drivers to comply with traffic signs.
"The procedures for the implementation of these exams are already in place. The introduction of the multimedia test is one of several CNVOT strategies to reduce the number of road accidents," Carlos said.
Data from the authorities show that in 2023 Angola recorded 14,429 road accidents, 1,069 more than in the same period in 2022, causing 3,121 deaths (1,069 more) and 17,902 injuries (+122), mostly pedestrians and passengers aged between 16 and 46.
"The introduction of the multimedia test will also increase awareness-raising and education campaigns in the most varied ministerial sectors about the responsibilities to be taken when using vehicles and roads. Likewise, the new intelligence radar system will be implemented, an important tool in the CNVOT's strategies to lower accident rates," the chief police said.FMA/MCN/VM/AMP
