Menongue – The court of the District of Menongue, in the province of Cuando-Cubango, sentenced, on Wednesday, the former head of Human Resources of the Municipal Administration of Cuchi, Mateus Rafael Malassa Calei, to five years and six months in prison, for crimes of abuse of authority and embezzlement.
When reading the ruling, the presiding judge of the Menongue district court, Jones Paulo, explained that the single sentence for the defendant results from the legal sum of one year in prison for the crime of abuse of authority and five years and six months for the crime of embezzlement.
It should be noted that the defendant, aged 35, committed these crimes by inserting, in 2022, in the Cuchi administration sheet, some names with leadership positions, salary and representation allowances, which caused losses to the state valued at more than 15 million Kwanzas (US$17,1k).
For the crimes, the convict had eight other administration employees, who were also sentenced, with a single sentence of 60 days and 50 thousand kwanzas (US$56,9) in court fees and the obligation to compensate the State with more than 12 million kwanzas (US$13.7k), for the crimes of material assistance and reception.
