Luanda - The United States of America Thursday reiterated its support for the leadership of Angola's President, João Lourenço, regarding the search for solutions to the conflicts in the Central African Republic (CAR) and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the latter in the eastern region.
The support was reaffirmed during a telephone conversation between the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, and the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, which served for the two officials to discuss different current issues, both bilateral and regional.
Regarding the situation in the DRC, the US Government advocates the need for the implementation of the decisions made by the Luanda Summit and it appeals the parts to assume their responsibilities towards the withdrawal of the M23 rebel movement from the positions they are occupying in the Congolese territory for the creation of conditions for the cantonment of this forces staff.

According to a statement from the Presidential Palace, during this afternoon´s interaction between the President of Angola and the US Secretary of State, the importance of the international community to focus its support on regional initiatives, which is the Luanda and Nairobi processes, was stressed.
The telephone conversation was also used to take stock of the United States-Africa Summit held last December, in Washington (USA), with the American side having guaranteed the implementation of the decisions taken at that forum.
In this respect, the officials pointed by the US President Joe Biden, to closely follow the next steps after the Washington Summit plan to visit Africa in February, in a tour with Angola on the agenda.
During the telephone conversation, both officials also took the opportunity to discuss bilateral cooperation regarding the growing interest of American investment in Angola.
