Luanda - The United States of America (USA) has praised the progress made by Angola in the political, economic and social fields.
The recognition was made Thursday in Luanda by the US Deputy Secretary of State, Wendy Sherman, after an audience granted by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.
Wendy Sherman is on a two-day working visit to Angola aimed at boosting the strategic partnership between the two states.
Speaking to the press at the end of the audience of about an hour and a half, she said that Angola, "with the leadership of João Lourenço," has opened a chapter for a more open, free society and with efforts to combat corruption.
The senior US diplomat also highlighted the efforts of the Angolan government to ensure rigorous accountability, to diversify the economy and to create more jobs for young people.
"The United States will continue to have Angola as a strategic partner and strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation," she said.
She said that the US administration would continue to prioritise cooperation with Angola in other areas, with particular emphasis on maritime safety, renewable energy and public health.
In 2010 Angola and the United States signed a strategic partnership agreement and cooperate in several areas, including trade, finance, energy, manufacturing, security, health and justice.
