Luanda - The Vice-President of Angola, Esperança da Costa, leaves Sunday for Nairobi, Kenya, to take part in the African Climate Summit in representation of President Joao Lourenço, reads a statement from the Vice President office.
The event takes place from September 4 to 6 under the slogan "Boosting Green Climate Growth and Climate Financing Solutions for Africa and the World".
The summit is intended to be a platform for deliberating on the relationship between Africa's development and the need to boost investment in climate action worldwide and, specifically, in Africa.
The event is expected to bring together around 30,000 participants, including African heads of State and Government, African ministers of the environment, agriculture, energy and finance, as well as various civil society partners.
The Summit, which is being held in coordination with the African Union Commission (AUC), is expected to adopt the Nairobi Declaration of African Leaders on Green Growth and Climate Financing Solutions.
Among other objectives, the major event aims to converge on common priorities for global discussions, including COP28, define and stimulate reforms to the international financial architecture, share innovation and deepen understanding of the challenges and opportunities surrounding the climate agenda.
The organizers expect that the summit will contribute to the continent's green economic transformation process, the optimization of its natural human resources, as well as the adaptation and mitigation of climate change.
