Luanda - The chairwoman of the Kivu Chamber of Mines, Yvette Muanza, defended, on Friday a greater monitoring to make women more empowered and boost the economy through the female gender.
Speaking at the high-level forum for women in the Great Lakes region, the official said the empowerment of women who are economically autonomous can influence the dynamics and resolution of conflicts.
Regarding the Kivu region (DRC), Muanza highlighted the existence of huge difficulties due to the fact that there is some insecurity, as the return to peace is awaited, which will allow women to develop their economic skills.
Muanza urged experts, whether from the United Nations or other organizations, to develop social programs that boost the economy, as more than half of the civilian populations fleeing wars or armed conflicts are women.
The High Level Forum of Women of the Great Lakes Region, which runs until Saturday in Luanda, is focused on the crisis in the region, with an emphasis on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Running under the motto “Strengthening women's participation and leadership in peace and security processes in the Great Lakes region”, the forum facilitated by the African Union through the Office of the Special Envoy for Women, Peace and Security, aims to promote dialogue and collaboration, as well as achieving a holistic and effective implementation of the “Women, Peace and Security Agenda”, integrating gender perspectives into policies and programs in the region.
