Luanda - Angola's ambassador to Namibia, Jovelina Imperial, Tuesday emphasised the performance and decisive contribution of nationalists in the national liberation struggle.
The diplomat, who was speaking during an activity marking the 64th anniversary of the start of the Armed Struggle for National Liberation, highlighted the bravery and sacrifice of nationalists such as Imperial Santana, Paiva da Silva, Virgílio Soutto Mayor, Engrácia Cabenha and others.
For Jovelina Imperial, 4 February 1961 represented not only the start of the Armed Struggle, but also a decisive milestone in the affirmation of national identity and the building of the collective consciousness of a people who would never accept living in subjugation.
Commemorated this year under the slogan: preserved, achieved, built, a better future’, the activity brought together almost a hundred Angolans living in Windhoek and served to address questions about the achievements the country has already made over the years, the result of the commitment of many Angolans who courageously began a struggle against Portuguese colonialism.
The event was an opportunity to interact with the community on current issues in the country's political life, such as Angola's presidency of the African Union as of the 15th of this month, the advantages of the Lobito Corridor, Angola's mediation in the conflict in the east of the DRC and others linked to the life of the Angolan community in Namibia.
The head of Angola's diplomatic mission in Namibia also made it known that Angola is going through a new era in its history, which consists of combating the ills that still plague the country, which is why the executive, led by President João Lourenço, is carrying out reforms to promote economic and social change.
Ambassador Jovelina Imperial said that the reforms are aimed at providing an attractive business environment, creating conditions for investment and incentives for innovation and greater involvement of the private sector in the country's economy, economic diplomacy and better distribution of wealth.FMA/ART/DAN/DOJ
