Havana - Angolan ambassador to the Republic of Cuba Maria Cândida Pereira Teixeira presentedTuesday figured copies of letters of credence to the minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Roberto Alvárez.
The ceremony, which precedes the delivery of credentials as a non-resident ambassador to that Caribbean country, was held via videoconference from the headquarters of the Diplomatic Mission in Havana, Cuba, where Maria Cândida Teixeira has permanent residence.
The ambassador thanked, on behalf of the Government of Angola, for the opportunity to present her letters and underlined the honour of being the first ambassador to the Dominican Republic.
The Angolan diplomat expressed her desire to address the Dominican Republic's experience in the future in the fields of agriculture, tourism, mining, gold exploration, as well as silver and nickel, considering these are very important areas for Angola.
In turn, the Dominican Minister of Foreign Affairs asked to convey “warm greetings” to the Angolan executive, especially to President João Lourenço, from his Dominican counterpart, Luis Abinader.
Roberto Alvárez, who also sent greetings to his Angolan counterpart, Téte António, considered it a pleasure to analyse bilaterally the areas mentioned by the ambassador, including cultural ties.
The presentation of the credential letters is scheduled for September and the official visit for the ambassador in October to discuss matters of bilateral interest with the local authorities.
Maria Cândida Pereira Teixeira was appointed Angola's ambassador to Cuba in March 2020.
