Luanda - The Angolan community abroad is one of the priorities of the countries government, the Angolan ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Júlio Maiato, reiterated on Saturday.
According to a note from the embassy to which ANGOP had access on Sunday, the diplomat was speaking in Dubai during the main event of the celebrations of the 49th anniversary of the proclamation of Angola’s National Independence, marked on 11th November.
The diplomat highlighted the thoughts of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, who called for greater attention to the problems of the diaspora, in particular legal and consular protection, so that it can be informed on the country's reality and its involvement in the moments of the nation's ephemeris.
Júlio Maiato stated that, despite living abroad, Angolans in the diaspora are deeply connected to the country’s “roots” and so they ought to keep on highlighting the importance of remaining committed to the country's projects and the ideals of peace, national reconciliation, and peaceful and harmonious coexistence.
Speaking to the Angolan community in this Arab State, Júlio Maiato stated that the country, like the world in general, is currently facing great challenges and highlighted that it is in these difficult times that they become crucial to consolidating the foundations of democracy and promoting sustainable economic and social development.
To the community, with around 250 Angolans, the ambassador called for work in a collaborative spirit, helping to carry out mobilization of investors, financing, as well as boost the contributions to cooperation and repositioning the country in Africa and the world, helping the nation to develop, regardless of different political, ideological or religious convictions.
The diplomat also called for more unity to achieve the objectives, stressing that any positive result achieved by Angola will be beneficial for everyone.
The diplomat went on to highlight that it is important to elevate the patriotic spirit and bravery of Angolan people, as well as stimulate the spirit of solidarity and unity among all Angolans.
The note highlights the fact that the ambassador is concerned about the frequent stories of compatriots defrauded by some Angolans residing in the UAE involved in unsavory practices, committing scams and other unacceptable situations, having advised them to show empathy and appreciation for the effort and sacrifice of another compatriot who might also need help.
During the event, held jointly between the Embassy of Angola and the Consulate General of Angola in Dubai, a cultural moment was promoted with an exhibition of African braids and a painting exhibition.
In addition to the Consul-General of Angola in Dubai, Bento André “Morgado”, the independence anniversary celebrations were attended by diplomats and representative members of the Association of Angolans and Friends in the United Arab Emirates and guests.
