Luanda – The ambassador of Cabo Verde to Angola, Jorge Figueiredo, considered this Tuesday that there has been a growth in cooperation between the two countries in the last five years.

Speaking to the press, at the end of an audience with the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, the Cabo Verdean diplomat said that the good environment can be assessed based on the bilateral agreements already signed.

In the last five years, Angola and Cabo Verde signed, among others, agreements in the air and maritime transport sectors, on facilitating private investment, reducing customs fees and administrative cooperation.

Jorge Figueiredo, who gave farewell greetings to President João Lourenço, after a five-year mission in Angola, underlined that cooperation ties are historical and cultural.

Experience in Municipalities

Ambassador Jorge Figueiredo, on the occasion, expressed his country's readiness to share with Angola the experience in the municipal sector, in "whatever is necessary".

“We have 31 years of local elections. What we learn is the result of exchanging experiences with other countries. Cabo Verde has already expressed its support for Angola in this process several times”, noted the ambassador.

Angola and Cabo Verde have strong cooperation ties. Among several bilateral protocols signed are visa waiver agreements, technical cooperation agreements in different areas, such as education, defence, oil, diplomacy, agriculture, transport, finance and administration.

Audience with Turkish Ambassador

Also at the Presidential Palace, João Lourenço received in a different audience the outgoing Turkish ambassador, Alp Ay, after a four-year mission to Angola.

Speaking to journalists at the end of the meeting, the Turkish diplomat said that cooperation ties between the two states has reached “quite positive” levels, which he considered promising.

He explained that in the last two years in which the two countries have had reciprocal presidential visits, more than 25 agreements and protocols were signed, adding that important Turkish companies have also been investing in Angola.

As to the volume of business between the two countries, Alp Ay said it was valued at US$350 million.

With regard to Angola's foreign policy, he referred that the Turkish government has followed its development and will continue to support the efforts of the Executive led by President João Lourenço.

In Angola, Turkey has investments in the provinces of Luanda and Uíge, in the areas of industry, commerce, education and civil construction, with current trade between the two countries amounting to US$134 million.

In 2020, Turkey invested around US$22.55 million in different sectors in Angola, with the African country interested in Turkish experience and potential in the areas of textiles, agro-food and automotive industries, as well as in household appliances production, tractor and motorized assembly.
