Luanda - Angolan diplomat Julio Maiato was accredited Tuesday in Manama by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa as Angola's non-resident ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain.
According to a press release, sent to ANGOP, at the ceremony held at the Al Sakhir Palace, Júlio Maiato presented greetings from President João Lourenço to the sovereign of Bahrain.
The ambassador, residing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), reaffirmed Angola's desire to strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation in several areas, with emphasis on agro-industry, oil and mineral resources, finance, transport, health and staff training.
He also emphasized the need to establish new agreements to increasingly cement a greater rapprochement, especially in the business field.
Angola and Bahrain established formal diplomatic relations, with the signing on 26 September 2013, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, of several legal instruments between the Angolan Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Affairs of that Arab country.
In addition to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Pakistan, as well as the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), based in the emirate's capital, are part of the coverage area of the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Bahrain is a small island kingdom in the Persian Gulf, with maritime borders with Iran to the northeast, Qatar to the east, and Saudi Arabia to the southwest.
The country has been at the center of major trade routes since antiquity. Its economy is constantly growing.
Bahrain's oil production and refining account for approximately 60% of exports, 70% of local government incomes, and 11% of Bahrain's GDP.
With a developed transport and communication network, the country is home to several multinational firms doing business in the Persian Gulf.
