Luanda - Angolan diplomat Alfredo Dombe on Friday in Madrid presented his credentials to King Philip VI accrediting him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Angola to the Kingdom of Spain.
During the ceremony, Alfredo Dombe, who becomes the eighth Angolan ambassador to Spain, conveyed the greetings of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to the Spanish sovereign.
The new ambassador was appointed on 7 March last year by the President of the Republic, to give impetus to relations between Angola and Spain, within the framework of the new paradigm of economic diplomacy with which the country intends to attract more foreign investment.
In the brief exchange of views between the monarch and the Angolan diplomat, the will of the two states to deepen the already strong relations of cooperation and friendship was reiterated.
The support of the Kingdom of Spain to transform Angola into a tourist destination on international routes, with the construction of Spanish hotel chains, was one of the concerns presented by the ambassador.
Cooperation in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, higher education, oil, defence and security, health, and new technologies were at the heart of the talks between the two entities.
The Angolan diplomat also took the opportunity to reiterate the desire to strengthen bilateral relations in the field of Ibero-language, with the opening of the Cervantes Institute in Angola to boost the teaching of the Spanish in universities and training centers in the country.
As part of its foreign policy, Spain considers Angola a priority country, as proven by the first state visit of King Felipe VI to this African region, Angola, in February 2023.
Cooperation between the two countries has intensified in the business sector, with the presence of Spanish companies in Angola, operating in various fields.
Angola is a strategic partner of Spain in Africa. Bilateral relations have entered a new phase with the introduction of joint policies to continue cooperation in wider policy areas of common interest.
The relationship between Angola and Spain dates back to the post-independence period and is marked by strong ties of friendship and cooperation that are manifested in Spanish investments in the construction of electrical infrastructure, university education, health, transport, geology, water treatment, fishing, information technology, tourism and industry, among others.
