The new ambassador of Angola to the United States of America Agostinho Van-Dúnem presented the Letter of Credence to United States President Joe Biden on Friday in Washinghton, DC.

Speaking after the ceremony, Ambassador Agostinho Van-Dúnem highlighted strengthening bilateral cooperation ties as a priority.

The diplomat emphasized that Angola has investment opportunities for US companies and businessmen, in the sectors of agriculture, mining, environment and infrastructure, among other areas.

“It is a privilege to represent the people and the Government of Angola in the United States of America, as I mentioned to President Joe Biden”, said Ambassador Agostinho Van-Dúnem.

Agostinho Van-Dúnem was excited to start this mission and pursue the principles that govern the consolidation and support of diplomatic relations between both States.

The diplomat showed willingness to work with the American counterpart, in order to implement the strategic partnership agreements between the two States, since the signing of the establishment of diplomatic relations 30 years ago.

Agostinho Van-Dúnem will also be a non-resident representative of Angola for 11 countries, with emphasis on Canada, Mexico and the archipelago of São Vicente and the Grenadines, a Caribbean country located in the Lesser Antilles.

Agostinho Van-Dúnem is the seventh Ambassador of Angola to the United States of America since the signing of diplomatic ties in 1993.

Prior to his appointment, Agostinho Van-Dúnem was a Member of Parliament of the National Assembly, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Assistant to the Diplomatic Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic. He holds a degree in International Relations with a Master's degree in Governance and Public Management.

Angola and USA Relations

Angola and the United States of America established formal diplomatic relations in 1993.

The energy sector is at the center of economic relations between both countries.

The American Ex-ImBank has a credit line to support US exports to Angola.

The United States-Angola Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to promoting trade and investment between the two countries.
