Luanda - The Constitutional Court Presiding judge Laurinda Monteiro Cardoso on Wednesday said voting contributes to make democracy more robust in Angola.
Speaking to the press after casting her vote at polling station 59 in urban district of Maianga, Luanda, the magistrate described the voting process as a unique moment for all Angolans.
The magistrate appealed to all citizens to fulfill their civic duty and right, not leaving it for the end of the day, so as to contribute to the true celebration of democracy.
"Congratulations to Angola and the Angolans. Everything is very well organised," said Laurinda Cardoso, adding that she hopes that the same civic behavior continue after the announcement of the election results. She stressed that "in this game of democracy, the great player is the people and it is they who decide”.
Wednesday 's general elections, which feature unprecedented participation by Angolans outside the country, is the fifth in Angola's history, after those held in 1992, 2008, 2012 and 2017.
Seven political parties, namely MPLA, UNITA, PRS, FNLA, PHA, APN and P-NJANGO and the coalition CASA-CE are running for 2022 elections.
At least 14.3 million voters in the country and the diaspora are participating in the process.
