Luanda - Religious leaders from various congregations in the country Sunday called on Angolans to respect for the law, tolerance and patriotism in the wake of elections.
The appeal is contained in a message read out during the ecumenical service in favour of the general elections scheduled for 24 August.
The religious leaders told the politicians to view the choice of Angolans as a message that deserve respect and accept the final results of the elections.
The church leaders also advised the candidates to abide by the
the Law, respect their opponents and stick to patriotism and tolerance.
“Whoever wins does not win everything and whoever loses, does not lose everything”, reads a message.
Considering that voting is an act of citizenship and patriotism, the faithful called for discipline, order as well as “active and massive” participation in the ballot.
Political parties and voters have also been advised to reject the messages that fuel violence, mayhem or likely to disrupt the electoral process, before, during and after the vote.
More than 30,000 believers from various religious denominations attended in Luanda the church service in the wake of elections.
Candidates for the President of Republic from MPLA João Lourenço and CASA-CE Manuel Fernandes also attended the event.
