Cazombo - A National Air Force (FAN) helicopter carrying National Electoral Commission (CNE) material crashed this Sunday in Lóvua commune, Alto Zambeze Municipality, eastern Moxico Province, causing no casualties.
The president of the Municipal Electoral Commission (CME), José Augusto, told ANGOP that the helicopter was carrying electoral material to the commune of Lóvua, which is 79 kilometres from Cazombo, capital of Alto Zambeze Municipality.
According to José Augusto, a technical problem was the cause of the incident with the helicopter that was also taking 15 people, of which five were crew members.
The Alto Zambeze Municipality is 519 kilometres off the province’s capital, Luena City.
The Provincial Electoral Commission in Moxico, through the National Air Force (FAN) helicopter, already distributed the elections material, such as tables, ballot papers, booths, waistcoats and ballot boxes, in difficult access areas, namely in the municipalities of Alto Zambeze, Luacano, Bundas and Luchazes.
According to the spokeswoman for the CPE, Mulau Keshipoco, 3,752 people will be part of the 599 polling stations and 938 voting tables in Moxico for the 24 August elections, and 938 delegates and an equal number of substitutes have already been accredited to supervise the electoral process in the province.
Angolans will take part in the fifth elections on 24 August to elect the President of the Republic, the Vice President of the Republic and the 220 members of parliament with around 14.3 million citizens expected to vote.
The first four elections were held in 1992, 2008, 2012 and 2017.
The political parties MPLA, UNITA, PRS, FNLA, APN, PHA and P-NJANGO and the electoral coalition CASA-CE are contesting the elections.
Meanwhile, Moxico Province has 416,118 registered voters.
