Mbanza Kongo - The construction of a memorial in honour of Holden Roberto, the historical and founding leader of the FNLA (National Front for the Liberation of Angola) was advocated Tuesday in Mbanza Kongo, Zaire Province, by a former president of this party, Ngola Kabangu.
Ngola Kabangu made this request during a ceremony that marked the 15th anniversary of Holden Roberto’s death, whose act was held near the tomb of the late historical figure.
He underlined that the construction of the memorial, in homage to that historical figure, is justified by the sacrifice observed in the struggle for the independence of Angola, which was won on 11 November 1975.
“I appeal to the relevant authorities to build a memorial where Holden Roberto´s remains lie, here in Mbanza Kongo City”, said the official.
Ngola Kabangu said that FNLA would continue to raise the torch of the political struggle until the materialisation of the ideals of “freedom and land”, defended by his party, encouraging the militants to stand firm for the pursuit of such goal.
Álvaro Holden Roberto was born in Mbanza Kongo on 12 January 1923 and died of an illness on 02 August 2007, in Luanda.
The Tribute ceremony marked by the laying of a wreath, was chaired by the FNLA president, Nimi a Simbi who is in Mbanza Kongo since Sunday in the scope of the electoral campaign for the general elections of 24 August.
