Luanda – The electoral campaign for the general elections of 24 August officially opens this Sunday, 24, with the participation of eight contesting political parties, of which only four of them participated in all the elections held in the country.
The campaign, which will last for 30 days, will have seven political parties and one coalition which will contest the votes of just over 14.3 million voters, 22.560 of whom reside abroad.
The competing parties are namely Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) ruling party, National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA), National Patriotic Alliance (APN), Social Renewal Party (PRS), Humanist Party of Angola (PHA), Nationalist Party for Justice in Angola (P-NJANGO) and Broad Convergence for the Salvation of Angola-Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE).
However, outside Angola the electoral campaign and the elections will take place in South Africa (Pretoria, Cape Town and Johannesburg), Namibia (Windhoek, Oshakati and Rundu), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Kinshasa, Lubumbashi and Matadi), Republic of Congo (Brazzaville, Dolisie and Ponta Negra), Zambia (Lusaka, Mongu, Solwezi), Brazil (Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia and Sao Paulo), Germany (Berlin), Belgium (Brussels), France (Paris), United Kingdom (London), Portugal (Lisbon, Porto) and in Netherlands (Rotterdam).
In addition to the political rallies, the general election contestants will be given airtime time on the Angola Public Television (TPA) and in the Angola National Radio (RNA) station to present their governance programmes and election manifestos.
Angola will hold its fifth general elections on 24 August this year, which will be marked by the participation of the Angolan diaspora.
This is the first time that Angolans abroad will take part in this process of consolidation and strengtneniong of democracy, which began in September 1992.
The previous ballot was held on 23 August 2017 with the participation of six political forces. The MPLA won it by an absolute majority, 61% of the votes, followed by UNITA with 26.67% and CASA-CE with 9.44%.
