Dundo – Calls for tolerance, preservation of peace, political stability and civility, as well as respect for difference marked, this Tuesday, in the north-eastern Lunda Norte Province, the 17th day of the campaign for the general elections of 24th August.
The MPLA, UNITA and FNLA political parties chose the municipalities of Lucapa, Cuango and Chitato - the largest electoral wards in the province – as the main places to sensitize voters on Tuesday to participate in an orderly election, avoiding
acts that jeopardize the process.
The first secretary of the MPLA in Lunda Norte Province and candidate for deputy, Ernesto Muangala, was in the village of Capaia, Municipality of Lucapa, where he presented his party's governance programme and urged militants to avoid possible provocations that incites intolerance.
He said that Angolans must, in these elections, set an example of
citizenship, tolerance, patriotism and civility, just like in the 2017 polls.
On his turn, the provincial secretary of UNITA, Domingos Oliveira, asked Angolans residing in the Municipality of Cuango to vote for peace and political stability, choosing governance programme proposals that guarantee sustainable and harmonious development of the country.
“Elections should not be seen as competitions between enemies, but as a moment of reflection on what kind of future we want for our country, because, at the end of the day, we are children of the same country”, he stressed.
The provincial secretary of the FNLA party, Carlos Mulamba, also asked voters of Chitato not to exchange peace, national unity and reconciliation between Angolans for the interests of political parties. He stated that the elections represent only a phase of deepening the democracies and a sovereign occasion for the alternation of power.
Lunda Norte Province has more than 200,000 voters, 704 polling station, which will be staffed by 4,676 people.
Across the country, 14,399,000 voters are expected to cast ballots, of which 22,560 are abroad, being the first time that there is voting outside the country.
