Benguela - The historical leader of National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA), Ngola Kabango, has called on voters and the population in general to refrain from intolerant or violent acts during or after the 24 August elections.
According to Ngola Kabango, who was speaking to ANGOP this weekend on the sidelines of a mass political act that brought together militants, friends and supporters of the National Front for the Liberation of Angola, the elections should be a feast and the voting citizens should refrain from accepting "incendiary" speeches from politicians.
The politician also said that it was necessary that candidates for the elections focus on how to “sell well their fish” (i.e electoral programme) and not make speeches that incite riots, vandalism and destruction of public property, as politicians should focus on programmatic speeches to convince voters.
According to the official, the FNLA´s aim is to win the 24 August elections because Angola needs a strong government capable of changing the country, focusing on agriculture, health, education and, above all, on the former combatants who are still not properly recognised, despite liberating the country.
Ngola Kabango went on to stress that, if FNLA wins the polls, its priorities will be the training of young people and creating more jobs, as well as improving the salaries of former combatants.
When questioned regarding the reality of the party´s organisation, Ngola Kabango said that, after 20 years of disunity, the FNLA is increasingly united and will continue to invest in the cohesion of its militants.
He took the opportunity to urge Angolans to praise the results of the winner, if it wins in a fair and democratic way, and, in case of suspicion, the contender can appeal to the courts.
The mass act was also preceded by the laying of a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and by a march aimed at launching a fraternal appeal to residents in Benguela province and militants not to associate themselves with acts of disorder.
