Menongue - The former president of Cabo Verde hopes that the general elections of August 24 will take place in a peaceful atmosphere among Angolans, towards the consolidation of democracy and development of the country.
Jorge Carlos Fonseca made these statements to the press in Menongue city , south-east Cuando Cubango province on the sidelines of a courtesy meeting with the local governor, José Martins, at the end of a visit of a few hours to that province, at the invitation of the Chicoil business group.
"As a former Head of State, I hope that the general elections in Angola take place in a climate of perfect normality, in accordance with the principles that govern modern democracies, that they are free, fair and transparent, because that is all we hope," he said.
He reminded that elections are part of the democratic process, are pluralist and imply a periodic and regular realisation, so they should be accepted as a normal phenomenon, because they constitute a political journey, where there are advances and retreats.
In Menongue, the former Cabo Verdean statesman performed various activities, including the inauguration of the temporary general building of the Private Polytechnic Institute of Menongue (ISPPM).
