Menongue – Cardinal Eugénio Dal Corso has appealed to the political parties and society to cultivate civic attitude and mutual respect ahead of the general elections scheduled for 24 August, 2022.
The Catholic prelate made the appeal on Friday in Menongue, south-east Cuando Cubango province, adding that he hopes that the supporters join the upcoming electoral campaign with speeches that promote peace and capable of bringing together the Angolans, for civic and peaceful elections.
Archbishop Eugénio Dal Corso said it is crucial that the polls be held in accordance with the maturity of the militants from the various competing political parties, putting the Angolan people first, as children of the same country.
“I wish that the elections, scheduled for August 24, convened by the President of the Republic João Lourenço, focus on respect for mutual acceptance and free choice of each citizen”, he stressed.
The church authority admitted that the country is moving towards the path of true democracy, so it is fair that different political parties get involved in the process.
Eugénio Dal Corso cautioned that one should not resort to violence, but rather the respect for citizens and the flags of each party, in order to show the world the grandeur and nobility being achieved by the country”.
According to him, society is invited to promote a culture of peace, harmony and respect, to set an example to the African continent and the world that the Angolan people are able to carry out peaceful and reconciliation elections, in an environment of tranquility.
