Luanda - An electoral civic education campaign will be carried out over the next few days in the Municipality of Belas, in Luanda, by the National Electoral Commission (CNE), in the framework of the general elections scheduled for 24 August, this year.
The information was provided Monday by the chairman of the Municipal Electoral Commission of Belas, António de Rosário, who explained that the initiative is counting on the participation of 130 activists, divided in 19 teams.
The activists will work door to door, in markets, churches and other places with a high population density.
The official stated that the aim is to intensify the campaign to mobilise the population, including in areas of difficult access.
The Municipality of Belas includes, amongst others, the localities of Barra do Kwanza, Kilamba, Ramiros, Cabolombo, Quenguela, Vila Verde and Morro dos Veados.
However, in the municipality of Belas over 200,000 voters are registered for the ballot on 24 August.
More than 14 million voters are expected to participate in the general election process, of whom 22,560 reside abroad.
Seven parties and one coalition are to contest the upcoming elections, namely MPLA, UNITA, PRS, FNLA, PHA, APN, P-NJANGO and CASA-CE.
These are the fifth elections in Angola´s history, after those of 1992, 2008, 2012 and 2017.
