Uige – The northern Uige Province hosts the first meeting of the Local Governance Council, set to take place on June 22-23, in a time that the region’s top challenge is its electrification process to generate progress and the resurgence of the agrarian sector.
Only three municipalities of the sixteen that make up the province have public electricity supply.
Speaking to the press, Uige governor, José Carvalho da Rocha, said the biggest challenge is to continue working for the electrification of the 13 missing municipalities, water distribution to the population, road construction, among other projects.
The official added that the concerns faced by the province are to be presented at the first meeting of this year's schedule, where the state of the country's main socio-economic impact projects will be reviewed.
According to Carvalho da Rocha, electrification of the province will lead to the progress of the region, job creation and opportunities for businesspeople to carry out their activities.
The meeting, to be chaired by President João Lourenço, is to bring together 18 provincial governors and several heads of ministerial departments. JAR/Amp/jmc
