Lubango – The ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Angola, Salem Ali Alshamsi, announced today in Lubango that his country is mobilizing investors to leverage the tourism sector in Angola.
The diplomat expressed his intention at the end of a visit to the site of the Nossa Senhora do Monte High Performance Sports project, as well as Tundavala, presented by the Government of Huíla, as priority investment spaces.
Salem Ali Alshamsi said his country has been promoting tourism since the 1980s and has achieved self-sufficiency in revenue, leaving oil on the back burner, an experiment that could help Angola.
'If the Government shows interest in cooperating with the UAE, in the tourism sector we are open to support, exchange know-how and bring investors to Angola,' he said.
He considered that the Angolan Government has to look at other sectors to be able to leverage tourism, such as support infrastructure, 'more and better travel packages in airlines', access roads and the entire chain that helps promote the sector.
On bilateral relations with Angola, he said that 'they are strong', because in addition to the presence of UAE companies in aviation, the port area, agriculture, construction and energy, the latter with a project in Huíla, it may move on to other initiatives.
As he said, in 2023 alone, his country's investment in Angola was US$2.9 billion.
The ambassador, who is on a two-day visit to Huíla, in addition to the courtesy meeting with the Government of Huíla, visited the tourist and sports complex of Nossa Senhora do Monte, the Leba Viewpoint, the Fenda da Tundavala, the Preciosa Factory, as well as the facilities of Hiper-máquinas Angola.
A dinner with business associations is planned today and on Friday a visit to the Higher Institute of Education Sciences of Huíla and the Mandume Ya Ndemufayo University. MS/MS/DOJ
