Luanda - The former president of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Duarte Pacheco, on Monday in Luanda praised Angola's capacity to hold the 147th assembly of the organization, which brought together more than 150 countries and two (2) thousand delegates, many of them high-level.
Duarte Pacheco made this statement at the end of an audience granted by the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, noting that the image of security that the country transmitted to the world 'was an important milestone for the parliamentary community'.
According to the parliamentarian, 'much was said about the lack of security in Angolan territory, but during their stays they were able to perceive the organizational capacity, at all levels, which allowed the change of consciousness'.
In this sense, the parliamentarian believes that 'the visitors left the national territory with a renewed impression of the country, which could result in future investments in Angola'.
Regarding the meeting, he stressed that some of the National Assembly's projects, still in the portfolio, were analysed, including the creation of an Academy, which will have the support of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, as part of the strengthening of cooperation.
For him, the strengthening of Parliament is not only reflected in the construction of buildings, but is the training of each of the members of the Parliament, taking into account the diversity of matters analyzed.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is an international organisation of sovereign parliaments whose purpose is to mediate multilateral contacts of parliamentarians.
The institution is the main parliamentary interlocutor of the United Nations (UN) and brings the voice of parliamentarians to the decision-making processes, regularly presenting its resolutions in the General Assembly, making statements and participating in debates on the main topics of the latter's agenda./DEPO/DOJ
