Dundo - The ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, Stéphane Doppgne, recognized on Tuesday Angola's big role in the definitive resolution of the politico-military conflict opposing the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda.
Speaking to the press, at the end of the audience with the governor of Lunda-Norte, Filomena Miza, Stéphane Doppgne highlighted that Angola's mediation, in the search for peace and peaceful coexistence between the DRC and Rwanda, demonstrates the country's experience in resolving of conflicts.
"Angola occupies a prominent place in Africa due to its experience in conflict resolution and proof of this is the work that President João Lourenço has been developing to mediate the politico-military conflict that opposes the DRC and Rwanda", he highlighted.
He encouraged the Angolan government, in particular President João Lourenço, to continue making efforts towards a tangible peace in the region.
Angola, Rwanda and the DRC have made significant and coordinated efforts to find a definitive security and peace solution in eastern DRC.
Angola, as mediator, has played a fundamental role in facilitating political-diplomatic dialogue between Rwanda and the DRC, aiming to stabilize this region of the Great Lakes.
The conflict in Eastern DRC, which has persisted since 2022, is led by forces from the M23 rebel movement, allegedly supported by Rwandan Government forces.
The attacks, which resumed in December 2023, targeted civilian populations, as well as violated human rights, including the occupation of several areas in Congolese territory.
