Luanda – The Portuguese ambassador to Angola, Pedro Pessoa e Costa, recognized this Wednesday, in Luanda, the Angolan government's efforts in the fight against corruption.
According to the diplomat, who was speaking to the press at the end of an audience with the MPLA party’s vice-president, Luísa Damião, this fight will help the country to collect revenue that could have a positive impact on improving the lives of citizens.
From his point of view, the fight against corruption could also help Angola to improve its reputation in the world and to increase its trust with international bodies.
Since the beginning of the functions of the new government, in 2017, the political and judicial authorities of the country have been increasing their strategy against corruption, which has resulted in the investigation of several public servants and several political players, some of whom have already been tried and found guilty.
In another area, the ambassador of Portugal reiterated his country's commitment to allocating vaccines to African Portuguese Speaking Countries (PALOP) and East Timor, precisely one million doses, to help prevent and combat Covid-19.
Regarding trade, he said that Portuguese companies continue to operate in the country and that products "made in Angola" are sold in Portugal, with emphasis on bananas and pineapples.
Also this Wednesday, the MPLA vice president received the Algerian ambassador to Angola, Abdelhakim Mihoubi, with whom she discussed issues related to cooperation between the two states.
At the end of the audience, the diplomat said that Algeria can cooperate with Angola in several domains, namely economic, cultural and military, as these are areas in which, in terms of technology, his country is very advanced.
According to the diplomat, the stern fight against corruption, launched by President João Lourenço, will attract many investors and bring development.
In two other meetings, Luísa Damião addressed the issue of the impact of Covid-19, with the "LS Republicano" show promoters and "CLER Entertainment" members, who asked for the government's support for the adoption of measures that could prevent redundancies in mass in the artistic class.
For the head of "LS Republicano", Fernando Republicano, the pandemic considerably reduced the number of shows and lowered the producer's profitability.
Clésio Gomes said that "CLER Entertainment" is in solidarity with the class, regarding the situation of the pandemic, which led to a reduction in shows.
