Luanda - Angola's permanent representative to the United Nations in New York Francisco José da Cruz reiterated the Executive's commitment to the process of women's empowerment.
The diplomat reiterated the Angolan Executive's commitment during a courtesy meeting with the head of Office of the UN Secretary General, Courtenay Rattray, held last Wednesday.
Francisco da Cruz highlighted that in recent years, the Government of Angola has increased the representation rate of women in various spheres of society.
He said that for the first time in its history, the country has women in prominent public positions, such as Vice-President of the Republic, Speaker of the National Assembly, Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, Minister of Finance, among others.
The meeting also served to address issues such as sustainable development and the challenges of climate change.
On the occasion, Ambassador Francisco José da Cruz highlighted the Angolan Executive's commitment to renewable energy, using foreign investment.
As for the drought affecting southern Angola, the diplomat spoke about the construction of the Cafu Channel, in the province of Cunene, designed to benefit a population estimated at more than 235.000 inhabitants.
Regarding peace and security in Africa, the officials expressed concern about the latest events on the continent, which include acts of inversion of the constitutional order with the deposition of democratically elected governments.
In turn, Courtenay Rattray praised Angola for the initiatives it has taken towards peace and stability on the continent, particularly its engagement in the pacification process between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.
He took the opportunity to congratulate the country on its presidency of SADC, in a context of many challenges, noting that it also holds the rotating presidency of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region and the OACPS.
According to the document, on the eve of the High Level week of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the two entities addressed expectations regarding the participation of the Angolan delegation. SJ/OHA/CF/NIC
