Luanda – Brazil’s top diplomat Mauro Vieira acknowledged Wednesday in Brasília the role played by the Angolan President, João Lourenço, as Champion of the African Union (AU) for Peace and Reconciliation on the African continent.
Mauro Vieira expressed this recognition at the opening ceremony of the VII meeting of the Angola-Brazil joint commission.
The title was awarded by the African Union (AU) and results from the efforts that Angola has been undertaking, with João Lourenço at the head of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), in the search for peace, dialogue and stability in several countries of the African continent.
Likewise, Mauro Vieira congratulated the Government and the Angolan people on 21 years of peace and national reconciliation, commemorated on April 4.
In turn, the Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, said that relations between Angola and Brazil are based on a rich and long history of friendship and cooperation, having considered this country as a strategic partner.
According to minister Téte António, Angola pays special attention to relations with Brazil, as they symbolize a path with many achievements and a promising future for both peoples.
He spoke of the political will and interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas of vital interest, namely agriculture, fisheries, agro-industry, health, food security, education, transport, energy, defence, water and basic sanitation, in the financial area, among others.
Minister Téte António also took the opportunity to reiterate his congratulations to the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, on his election to the post last October.
He stressed that the time has come to establish a new cycle of economic and financial cooperation.
Following the early payment of the debt owed to Brazil, the official expressed interest in opening new lines of credit, without the guarantee of the oil product and which are governed in accordance with international standards and guarantees, for the financing of projects of development in Angola.
The two top diplomats converged on the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation, based on the terms of the Strategic Partnership Programme, signed in 2010. SC
