Luanda - Angola diplomat, José Andrade de Lemos, handed over this Wednesday, in Dili, to the local authorities, the copies of his credentials that enable him to exercise the functions of Angola's plenipotentiary ambassador in Timor-Leste.
According to a press release sent to ANGOP, the copies of the credentials were delivered to the director general for Protocol, Consular and Ceremonial Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of this Asian country, Fulgêncio José Helvídio Corbafo.
As of today, Angola is referenced and registered as the 1st Diplomatic Mission of an African country with in permanent headquarters in East Timor.
On that occasion, the document states, some issues related to cooperation between the two countries were addressed, as well as the initial phase for the installation of the Angolan diplomatic mission.
The delivery of the credentials to the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, José Ramos Horta, is scheduled for the next few days.
The Democratic Republic of East Timor, a member of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), is a country in Southeast Asia that occupies half of the island of Timor, surrounded by coral reefs full of marine life, and has become independent of Indonesia in 2002.
Angola and East Timor share ties of solidarity and cooperation, with emphasis on the areas of military technical assistance and oil.
