Luanda - The United States of America intends to strengthen strategic cooperation with Angola in the political and economic affairs, the country’s ambassador Tulinado Mushingi said Thursday in Luanda.
According to the US ambassador to Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe, who was speaking at the 4th of July ceremony (the date of US independence), the partnership between the two countries has grown a lot this year, reflected in the visits of senior officials from his country to Angola and vice versa.
"This was indeed a historic year in US-Angola relations, as we welcomed US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin, five senators, USAID administrator Samantha Power, as well as facilitating a meeting between Presidents Joe Biden and João Lourenço in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, DC," he stressed.
The US diplomat said that Angola, the United States and G7 partners are carrying out a truly transformational infrastructure project: the Lobito Corridor, whose initial investment, the first by the United States in railway lines in Africa, will help connect Angolan and Congolese markets and communities.
Tulinado Mushingi said the Lobito Corridor railway will also connect the region to the rest of the world, generating new investment in agriculture, digital infrastructure and clean energy.
"Last May, the United States finalized agreements with the Angolan government for around 1.4 billion US dollars in new development projects that will serve the Angolan and American people," he said.
The diplomat added that the US will invest 900 million dollars for the company "Sun Africa" to generate renewable energy for the electricity grid, a 450 million dollar project by Acrow Bridge to build 186 bridges throughout Angola, thus improving transport infrastructures, as well as connecting agriculture to markets, and 40 million dollars to digitize national Radio of Angola, reaching 95 percent of the population.
