Luanda – The diplomatic bodies accredited in Angola encouraged Thursday the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to maintain the country as an unavoidable actor in building of peace and global stability.
The encouragement is contained in the message read by the dean of the diplomatic bodies, the Polish ambassador, Piotr Mysiliwie, at the New Year greetings ceremony to the Angolan Statesman.
The Polish diplomat, who also asked João Lourenço to continue with his efforts to improve the living conditions of Angolans, praised the personal commitment of the Head of State to solution to “old multidimensional conflict” in the Democratic Republic of Congo”.
He stated that diplomacy follows Angolan actions, at summits in the country and in other capitals, for the pacification of the Great Lakes region and the world, considering Angola as a key tower in the global construction of peace and stability, for the development of the world and the general well-being.
Piotr Mysiliwie exhorted governments and people to act always thinking about the well-being of future generations, referring that the Angolan people value the advantages of the life in peace.
He also welcomed the initiatives of the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, in favour of children, with programmes such as “Born to shine”, which conveys the perspective of healthy children in families with HIV/AIDS.
In his speech, the Polish diplomat condemned the conflict in Ukraine, saying that it (war) “threatens world peace and security”.
He recalled that in November 2022, the world population stood at eight billion, questioning whether the world would be prepared to face such demographic growth.
He also welcomed the organisation of the climate summit in Egypt, as the countries of the world are trying to find solutions to halt climate change and prevent a catastrophe.
The Polish ambassador said that the future of cooperation with Angola involves promoting a green economy and international cooperation to counter climate change trends.
Speaking to the press, Cabo Verde's ambassador, Jorge Figueredo, said that cooperation with Angola focuses essentially on exploring air and maritime transport, which should be reinforced in 2023.
In turn, the Portuguese ambassador to Angola, Francisco Alegre Duarte, said that relations between the two States are excellent, predicting a "good year" and recognising great potential for the two countries to cooperate in the field of clean energy production.
He stated that the consulate in Luanda is the biggest issuer of entry visas, hoping that the mobility agreement, signed within the scope of the CPLP, will make easier the movement of citizens between member states.
Osvalda Joana, the Mozambican ambassador, underlined that economic cooperation with Angola has great impacts in terms of diversifying the economy of both countries, ensuring that her country can provide technicians to promote agriculture.
She confirmed that there is an "extremely high" debt with Angola, the amount of which she did not reveal, and that the finance Ministries of the two countries are negotiating the modality to settle it.
The head of the Mozambican Diplomatic Mission in Angola considered the crisis in Cabo Delgado as an external invasion in a province where the exploitation of natural resources began.
“It is an attempt to block the development of the region”, she denounced, revealing that even today another leader of the terrorist organisation in that region was killed.
