Huambo - The coordinator of the Support Office for Members of the Parliament (MPs) of the Constituency of Huambo, Armando Capunda, suggested, on Wednesday, to the Executive to guarantee more fertilizers to peasant families, to increase agricultural production.
The parliamentarian was speaking to the press, at the end of a courtesy regimental meeting with the governor of the province of Huambo, Pereira Alfredo, to present the action program of the III Session of the V Legislature of the National Assembly and learn about the main projects included in the General State Budget (OGE/2025).
Armando Capunda said that, currently, the problem of the population is social, mainly hunger and poverty, hence the programs planned by the Executive, especially in the field of agriculture, should aim to improve domestic production.
To this end, he said it is necessary for the government to guarantee the necessary inputs and inputs and lower fertilizer prices, as the population, fundamentally, in the province of Huambo, is essentially agricultural.
He pointed out that the fight against hunger and the reduction of poverty necessarily pass through the agricultural sector, due to the fact that most peasants produce sweet potatoes and reindeer, corn, cassava and other crops that ensure the food well-being of citizens.
The Member of the Parliament predicted that, with the reduction of fertilizer prices and the support of peasant associations and cooperatives of family farmers, in conjunction with the industry area, it will be possible, in the short or medium term, to reduce hunger and poverty of the population.
Armando Capunda said he was satisfied with the meeting with Governor Pereira Alfredo, having learned of the emergency programme of the Government of Huambo province, which foresees tasks that will respond to concerns in the field of energy and water, requalification and the recovery of infrastructure.
He called for the creation of conditions for citizens to have more access to housing, not only in centralities, but on infra-structured land, with directed self-construction, to avoid anarchic constructions.
For his part, the governor of Huambo province, Pereira Alfredo, said that the meeting served to address the lines of development of this region of the Central Plateau of the country and inform about the actions that are planned to be carried out in the 2025 financial year, in addition to listening to them, as representatives of the people.
He reiterated that the emergency program of the Government of the province of Huambo, with four axes, begins this year, with actions of basic sanitation, public lighting, recovery of green spaces, intervention in the critical urban and peri-urban areas of the cities of Caála, Huambo and the village of Bailundo.
