Luanda - Members of the National Assembly praised Tuesday the work carried out by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in mediation and conflict resolution in Africa.
Today marks two years since the Head of State was appointed African Union Champion for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa (CAMPPAFRICA) at the 16th extraordinary summit of the African Union (AU), also known as the Malabo Summit.
Speaking to ANGOP, parliamentarian Maria Antonieta Baptista considered João Lourenço a tireless President with a futuristic vision, whose neighbouring countries have to recognise his active and permanent role in the search for peace.
In his opinion, the Angolan statesman has the merit of developing diplomacy in search of peace and the development of Africa.
He said that the head of state fights for the democratization of the region, as he wants to see the continent free of any conflict.
For her part, parliamentarian Ana da Purificação said that João Lourenço has transmitted the example of pacification and reconciliation of Angola to other African countries, to prevent them from going through what Angola went through during the long-armed conflict.
Therefore, he said that the merit of João Lourenço should be recognized for almost 'losing sleep' for the resolution of conflicts such as the one in the DRC, Sudan and the fight against terrorism in Mozambique.
'The President of the Republic has been mediating all these processes, not by its own decision or by its position in SADC, but because other countries recognize the effort made in this regard,' she said.
She stressed that this position is recognised by other countries. MGM/ART/DOJ
