Addis Ababa – Urban sustainable development and prosperity on the African continent are on the table of the African Urban Forum, on September 5 and 6, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with Angola participating.
The event, organized by the Government of Ethiopia and the African Union (AU), provides a platform for high-level discussions on quick urban growth and housing challenges on the African continent, which should receive special attention, according to the organizers.
It promotes dialogue and collaboration between interested parties (public and private entities) in order to define a path towards sustainable urban development in Africa, contributing to the continent's general prosperity, within the aspirations outlined in Agenda 2063.
At the event, opened by the Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgan Tiruneh, Angola is represented by the ambassador to Ethiopia and the country's permanent representative to the AU and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Miguel Bembe, and by the ambassador to Kenya and permanent representative at the UN Offices in Nairobi (Kenya), Sianga Abílio.
According to the forum's organizers, the African continent is experiencing a crucial moment in its history and is about to undergo significant transformations in the coming years, with emphasis on the process of urbanization, which profoundly changes society, the economy and the environment.
