Solwezi - Businesspeople from Zambia, Malawi and Tanzania are "strongly" interested in using the Lobito Corridor to promote international trade, Angola's ambassador to Zambia, Albino Malungo, said on Wednesday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the second Regional Cooperation and Cultural Exchange Meeting between the provincial administrations of North West Zambia and Angola’s eastern Moxico, the diplomat said there is "enormous" interest from investors in using the railway, which will link the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian Ocean.
The Angolan ambassador added that work has been done to publicise the strategic importance of the Lobito Corridor in facilitating international trade transactions coupled with clear dialogue with Zambian and Angolans businesspeople.
Lobito Corridor connects the south of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the north-west of Zambia to regional and global trade markets through the Port of Lobito in Angola, extending to almost 1,300 km through Angola’s provinces of Benguela, Huambo, Bié and Moxico.
Rebuilding transport infrastructure has been the Angolan government's main priority to speed up the country's development and provide decent conditions for the population. YD/AMP
