Lisbon - The consul general of Angola in Lisbon, Portugal, Vicência de Brito, Saturday urged the Angolans to come together to preserve peace and maintain a harmonious environment.
Vicência de Brito was speaking during an ecumenical service on April 4, the Peace and National Reconciliation Day, attended by various Angolan religious congregations based in Portugal.
The consul general recalled that the date marks the silencing of weapons, which should be understood as a framework of tolerance and magnanimity.
The consul appealed to all those, with the values and principles of national cohesion, to reinforce the awareness that Angola belongs to everyone.
“Democracy is so important for peace and development, in the same way that peace and development are necessary for democracy”, she said.
In turn, the pastor of the Adonai Church, Américo Marques, called on the Angolans to work on duration of peace, which he described as a good of all citizens.
The event was attended by Angolan diplomats accredited in Portugal, members of youth associations and churches, including the Catholic Church, as well as more than 500 people.
