Luanda – Angola Cabinet Council on Wednesday increased by five percent the salaries of public servants, with the aim to partially restore their purchasing power and to give them dignity in return for the services provided.
According to a statement of the meeting, the aim is also to ensure greater administrative efficiency and continuous improvement of the quality of public services.
The Minister of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security, Teresa Rodrigues Dias, said that January salaries will already reflect the five percent increase, as established in the State Budget (OGE).
The minister underlined that the government realizes that 5 percent increase does not restore purchasing power at all, so adjustments will continue to be made within the scope of the indications of the Roadmap for the Implementation of the New Remuneration Architecture for the Public Administration for salary correction.
The five percent increase, the minister said, will also be reflected in the allowances calculated on the basic salary.
The Cabinet also approved the Draft Law on Combat on Illegal Mining Activity, which aims to define a specialized legal framework against the illegal exploitation of strategic miners.
It also establishes rapid mechanisms for declaring the loss of instruments, products and advantages acquired in favor of the Angolan State.
A decree for the creation of the Order of Biologists of Angola was also approved, which, among other things, must ensure the defense and promotion of the profession and the scientific progress of biology as a science in a pedagogical, technical and professional field.
The Angolan Order of Biologists is also expected to safeguard the ethical and deontological principles that guide the profession and the public interest.
The session considered a legislative project that amends the organization and functioning of the auxiliary bodies of the President of the Republic, with the aim of adjusting the distribution of attributions between the ministerial departments responsible for implementing macroeconomic policies.
The amendments in the organization and functioning of the bodies supporting the President of the Republic aims to provide efficiency and effectiveness in its actions, within the framework of the implementation of the National Development Plan 2023-2027, the statement said. JFS/VC/AMP
