Luanda – The members of the Honorary Board, a consultative body to the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) leader, encouraged Saturday in Luanda the leader of the party, also Head of State, João Lourenço, to continue his action for the well-being of the country and Angolans.
According to the communiqué from the first meeting of this body, the said members encouraged President João Lourenço to continue works related to the political, economic, social, diplomatic and security plan.
The document informs that the members of the Honour Council expects that “Angola can continue to safeguard the stability of its institutions, the improvement of its economic performance, as well as the effectiveness of the institutions regarding their social action and the fight against corruption, nepotism and impunity”.
During the gathering, the members of the consultation body of the president of the ruling MPLA party urged Angolans to celebrate with joy and responsibility the Peace and National Reconciliation day, 4th of April.
According to the statement, at the meeting João Lourenço presented the members of the Honour Council with "substantial information" on the operational and functioning status of the party, as well as on the country's political, economic and social situation.
At the occasion, the participants were pleased with the information they received and due to that they presented their points of view with proposals and considerations which deserved the attention of the party´s president.
“The country lives in a climate of peace that must be preserved and serves as a fundamental and unavoidable assumption for the development of Angola and the continuous improvement of the living conditions of the populations”, reads the document.
The meeting which took place in Futingo II Complex, in Luanda, and was attended by the said council’s majority of members and also members of the MPLA Political Bureau Secretariat, as guests.
Nationalists praise the meeting
Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, nationalist Diogo Ventura said that “important issues” had been discussed that will contribute to a better future for Angola.
Amadeu Amorim said the party’s president needed to listen to older and more qualified people, and suggested the inclusion of representatives from other provinces in order to have a more open and correct notion of the situation and on the best way to move the country forward.
He expressed his opposition to those who claim to be committed to peace and national reconciliation but who use the social networks to call for inertia, without taking into account the national interest.
The nationalist stated that it is necessary to avoid conflicts or wars, such as the ones the country had experienced, referring that the Africa of today gives reason to João Lourenço, to the point of considering him "champion of peace" in the continent.
He warned about the danger of divisive manoeuvres by the west, with its attempts to divide the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to take advantage of its wealth.
Maria da Conceição Kaposso said that several proposals related to the need for better food availability, water and energy supply were presented, believing in improvements in the supply of these services in the near future.
Maria Kaposso values peace as the greatest achievement of the Angolan people, resulting in facilitated movement of people and goods countrywide and the increase in the number of jobs.
Engrácia Cabenha who is considered the queen of the "February 4” highlighted the commitment of the Angolan Government in improving the conditions of Angolans.
The MPLA´s Honorr Council, of which the former President José Eduardo dos Santos was a member, includes former leaders and historical figures of the governing party.
Among the historical figures are Lopo do Nascimento, Roberto de Almeida, Luzia Inglês also known as “Inga” and the widow of the first President of the Republic, Maria Eugénia Neto, as well as the veterans Julião Mateus Paulo (Dino Matross), Hermínio Escórcio, Desidério Costa, Santana André Pitra (Petroff), Brito Sozinho, Dombele Bernardo, Paulo Cassoma, Albina Assis and António dos Santos França (Ndalu).
