Luanda - The National Preparatory Commission for the 5th Ordinary Congress of the Social Renewal Party (PRS) confirmed, on Tuesday in Luanda, the activist Sapalo António as the candidate for leadership of the political formation.
Sapalo António will compete with the current president, Benedito Daniel, for access to the party's top position in the election scheduled from 1st to 3rd of October, in Luanda.
The information was provided to journalists following the Constitutional Court's response to the precautionary measure filed by Sapalo António, after being prevented from running for party leadership, in the first instance, allegedly for not meeting the requirements.
According to the coordinator of the National Preparatory Commission for the Congress of the party, Donji Vieira, the competitor can run in the PRS elections, as he is in compliance with the statutes of that party.
Donji Vieira said that the same does not happen with Gaspar Fernandes, as he does not meet the conditions to run for the position, as he has not reached 15 years of activism.
"The issue of Gaspar Fernandes is clear, which is why he was removed from this race due to the time he has been active in the party (14 years), despite being part of the Political Committee, being an executive member and national youth secretary", the official explained.
According to the schedule, the period from August 25th to September 24th is dedicated to the campaign of candidates for party president.
On September 27th, a meeting of the National Executive Secretariat will be held to prepare the documents of the 5th Congress for consideration by the Political Council. Then on the 28th, the Political Council meets to examine the documents to the meeting, to be submitted to the National Committee.
However, on the 29th, it will be submitted to the meeting of the National Committee to approve documents for Congress, on the 30th is scheduled the preparation and distribution of documents to the delegates to the Congress, and on the defined date it will take place, which will have the elections in the center of attention.
Regarding the competence of the National Preparatory Commission, for holding the Congress, the coordinator clarified that it is legal, having justified that it was decided in the Constitutional Court that its constitution resulted from the election of the National Executive Secretariat, in compliance with the party's statutes.
