Luanda – The Permanent Commission of the National Assembly meets Friday to assess the proposal submitted by the largest opposition party (UNITA) to remove Angolan president, João Lourenço, from office.
According to a note from the parliament, the meeting was called by the National Assembly Speaker Carolina Cerqueira, who says to be an imperative of the Rules of Procedure.
The MPs of the Permanent Commission will discuss the "Information on the receipt of the UNITA Parliamentary Group's Proposal to remove the President of the Republic from office", the statement says.
On Thursday, the UNITA Parliamentary Group submitted to Parliament a proposal to remove President João Lourenço from office, for alleged violations of the Constitution and interference in the legislative and judicial powers.
According to the UNITA MP Liberty Chyiaka, it is up to the people, on the initiative of one third of their representatives and with the approval of two thirds, in the National Assembly, to remove the President.VM/AMP
