Benguela – Angola will reinforce control at its border posts with a video surveillance monitoring system, sensors and radars, the general commander of the National Police, Arnaldo Manuel Carlos, announced Saturday in Benguela.
The general commissioner, who was speaking at the end of a two-day visit to the province of Benguela, said that the General Command of the National Police of Angola has started a process of installing technological equipment for monitoring and controlling borders.
He highlighted that the new technological system will make police forces more effective in controlling Angolan borders, adding that it is already being installed in the border area of Cunene province, with the setting up of the first electronic observation posts already connected with transmission of images.
He said that the system will be connected with the Border Guard Police Command and the General Command of the National Police of Angola, which will allow all events at the borders to be viewed in real time.
“In the next few days, the assembly will be completed on the Cunene border”, he guaranteed, stressing that the system will also be assembled on the borders of Cabinda and Zaire, with the respective equipment already sent to these provinces.
Arnaldo Carlos stated that border security continues to be a concern of the General Command of the National Police of Angola (PNA) and that the installation of technological equipment is being carried out by Angolan technicians assigned to this body.
When asked about alleged assaults on foreign tourists, the commander-general considered them isolated cases, but assured that defense and security bodies will be more attentive to prevent these acts, as well as hold their perpetrators criminally responsible.
