Huambo - The commander of the Central Military Region (RMC), Lieutenant General Simão Carlitos Wala, on Monday highlighted the academic and technical-professional training of troops as one of his main priorities, in order to better master techniques and interpret social phenomena.
Lieutenent General, who was addressing the troops on parade moments after his presentation as commander of the RMC, said that the training of military personnel in various areas would receive special attention, with a focus on the challenges of globalisation.
He also promised to do everything possible to guarantee the permanent maintenance of the self-armour technique and the control of the tight and rigorous system of armouries and weapons and ammunition stores in the large units, establishments and bodies of the Central Military Region.
Lieutenant General Wala also proposed continuing to work to guarantee the armed defence of the provinces of Benguela, Bié, Cuanza-Sul and Huambo, by maintaining levels of organisation, discipline and rigour in relations with civil society, traditional authorities and the population in general.
He said that among the priorities are the fulfilment of the programmes outlined by the Army's Higher Command this year for operational, combative and educational-patriotic preparation, given that this is a rich region with great economic potential, from water resources to minerals and infrastructure, such as the Lobito refinery and the Benguela Railway.
Lieutenant General Wala also said that there are others that require a redoubling of efforts in tactical and operational improvement, so that, in cooperation with the bodies of the Ministry of the Interior, Security and others that make up the National Defence system, economic and strategic objectives can be maintained.
The Commander also said that the Central Military Region will also work to combat organised crime, with a view to guaranteeing the normal movement of people and goods, so that the provincial governments can implement structural projects focused on the well-being and development of the population.
Lt Gen. Wala added that the RMC will continue to play a key role in supporting the efforts of provincial governments to rebuild social infrastructure and participate in vaccination campaigns, the eradication of illiteracy and other community tasks.
‘One of the fundamental issues is working to ensure that the Central Military Region continues to occupy a privileged place among the country's other six military zones, where those who work should be recognised and those who don't work should follow the example of those who do,’ he said.
Lt General Wala's presentation to the troops of the MRC was led by the Army commander, General João Serafim Kitekulo, in front of general officers and heads of Weapons and Services offices.
