Luanda - The newly appointed commander of the National Police, Chief Commissioner Francisco Monteiro Ribas da Silva, sworn on Thursday, admitted that it will not be an easy task to lead the corporation, but pledged commitment to sort out eventual issues and meet the expectations raised upon him.
Speaking to the press after the swearing-in ceremony led by President João Lourenço, the commander said the National Police will continue to implement strategies to bring services closer to the population, with the aim to earn their trust.
“We're going to draw up an action plan based on the order that was issued, so that it can be implemented within the established timetable, so that we have a positive balance,” Silva said.
The new Secretary of State for Interior, Arnaldo Manuel Carlos, on his turn said the promotion and development of public security policies, with an emphasis on reducing crime in the country, will be his top priority.
Arnaldo Manuel Carlos, who previously served as general commander of the National Police, stressed that “the focus will be on the continuous fight against crime”.
“We will continue to work in all directions, especially in those situations that currently worry Angolan citizens, with emphasis on the destruction of public property, especially crimes that occur on the outskirts of cities,” Carlos said.
The Secretary of State for Technical Assurance of the Ministry of Interior, Cristino Mário Ndeitunga, who was also sworn in at the same ceremony, stressed that the mission is to work towards a robust Ministry to fulfill its task properly.
Cristino Mário Ndeitunga said the focus will be to fight crime, strengthen the institutions and bodies of the Ministry of Interior to better respond to the wishes of the population.AFL/ART/AMP
