Luanda - The meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), which aims to prepare for the 44th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government, ended its work in the early evening of Wednesday, in Harare, capital of the Republic of Zimbabwe.
For two days, the situation of Member States' Contributions, the Report of the outgoing Chairperson of the Organ of Cooperation in the Areas of Politics, Defense and Security were on the table of the SADC Council of Ministers, as well as analyzing the degree of implementation of the Indicative Strategic Plan for Regional Development.
This SADC body also reviewed aspects linked to the situation of Regional Food and Nutrition Security Projects, which encompass the health situation, Gender and Development, Risk and Disaster Management, in addition to the degree of implementation of the Strategy and Roadmap for Industrialization.
The mottos of the SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, the Legal Instruments and Regional, Continental and International Programs, as well as Candidacies for posts in continental and international organizations were also under debate at this ministerial meeting.
During the work, the Angolan delegation was led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and outgoing President of the Council, Téte António, and was also made up of ministers Victor Hugo Guilherme (Planning), Rui Miguêns de Oliveira (Industry and Trade), Ottoniel dos Santos (Secretary of State for Finance and Treasury), as well as other senior national officials.
The SADC Ministerial meeting precedes the 44th Ordinary Summit of the Heads of State and Government of this Community, which will take place on Saturday (17), in Harare, under the motto: “Promoting Innovation to Fully Exploit Opportunities for Growth and Sustainable Economic Development Towards an Industrialized SADC”.
The objective of the Council of Ministers was to analyze the progress recorded in the implementation of the various decisions that aim to materialize regional integration and assess the degree of implementation of the SADC Strategic Indicative Development Plan (RISDP), and the SADC Strategy and Roadmap for Industrialization, among other topics.
On Saturday, Angola will hand over the rotating SADC Presidency to Zimbabwe, with the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, expected to be replaced by his counterpart Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa. SC/DOJ
